Walk in Obedience to the Holy Spirit

Recently, I travelled with a group and strangely at about 4:30AM I was suddenly woken up by the Spirit to pray even though I was very tired. I must confess I didn’t do a good job (my excuse was fatigue but no excuse is good enough when you are a soldier in an Army at WAR) and I let my desire for sleep overtake me. I went back to sleep and in my sleep I had a deep feeling I had messed up.

I ignored it hoping there would be no consequence but exactly 12 hours from then a vehicle I was in was in had an accident. I came out without injures but the injuries of others HAUNTS me! I experience great grief seeing people I love in pain. God was really merciful to us and no one died but I cannot but wonder if it would have been averted if I had prayed. Nevertheless there is a lesson to learn in this story.

At any time the Holy Spirit wakes you up to pray or instructs you to do something, please do it. Even if it’s inconvenient or hard or “at a wrong time”. Obedience to the Holy Spirit is the only way we can live a victorious life in Christ.

1 Samuel 15:22-24
Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim (household good luck images). Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.
And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

Romans 8:1
1 THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit, if you have sincerely repent

Hosea 5:15-6:3
15 I will return to My place [on high] until they acknowledge their offense and feel their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction and distress they will seek, inquire for, and require Me earnestly, saying,
Hosea 6
1 COME AND let us return to the Lord, for He has torn so that He may heal us; He has stricken so that He may bind us up.
2 After two days He will revive us (quicken us, give us life); on the third day He will raise us up that we may live before Him.
3 Yes, let us know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord [to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him]. His going forth is prepared and certain as the dawn, and He will come to us as the [heavy] rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.

His miracles and continued protection are signs of mercy from Him. Yet, millions remain in thankful, ungrateful and continuously complain as if nothing good ever occurred in their life
[Excerpt from Holy Spirit Handbook – Mike Murdock]

The Holy Spirit protects us from the enemy that seeks to destroy us. As long as we are on earth, we are soldiers in an ACTIVE WARZONE! Hence it would be foolish to ignore Him.

John 10:10
10 The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Write the Laws of God in Your Heart!

21 As for Me, this is My covenant or league with them, says the Lord:My Spirit, Who is upon you [and Who writes the law of God inwardly on the heart], and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouths of your [true, spiritual] children, or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord, from henceforth and forever.
(Isaiah 59:21 AMP)

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people
(Hebrews 8:10 KJV)

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them
(Hebrews 10:16 KJV)

Psalms 119:11

11 Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

The Holy Spirit wants to write the laws of God in our hearts and minds. Why? It is what comes out of the heart that defiles a man. If your heart is filled with hatred, lust, anger, unforgiveness, then without any effort on your part, it will naturally bear evil fruit, even if you are physically trying to do good.

So God wants to change what is in our hearts. The first law He wants to write in our hearts is the law of Love! We are to love God with all our heart, soul and mind. Note that the bible goes further to explain the love of God.

3 For the [true] love of God is this:that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous
(1 John 5:3 AMP)

Obedience to God’s commandments is the Love of God.

Secondly, God wants us to love our neighbours. Not just those that do good to us but those that don’t do good to us. He wants us to love our enemies, those that despitefully use us. He doesn’t want us to condemn them, speak evil of them or hate them. He wants us to love them and shower our good will on them as well (not saying we don’t protect ourselves from them, but that we forgive and pray good things for them). He wants us to forgive anyone who offends us.

God wants us to be like HIM. He loved even those who REJECT HIM. If you have ever fallen in love with a lady or a guy only for the person to REJECT you, you most definitely feel hurt because of the REJECTION. Christ didn’t just suffer REJECTION, He was hated and crucified by the people he came to die for. Even while on the CROSS, He forgave those who hated HIM and put HIM in that PAINFUL, CRUEL, UNJUST, BONE CRUSHING, LIFE DRAINING SITUATION.

CLEANSING OUR HEARTS

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me
(Psalms 51:10-11 AMP)

23 A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.
24 God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (
(John 4:23-24 AMP)

MEDITATION; THE WAY TO RENEW OUR MINDS

The cleansing of our hearts cannot happen directly, it happens through the renewal of our minds. The laws of God must penetrate our hearts through our minds. Our mind is the gateway to our hearts.

8 I delight to do Your will, O my God; yes, Your law is within my heart
(Psalms 40:8 AMP)

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts:and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people
(Hebrews 8:10 KJV)

The LAWs are to be PUT first in our MINDs and then WRITTEN in our HEARTS by the HOLY SPIRIT.

Putting the LAWS of God in our MINDS means meditating on his LAWS day and night!

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success
(Joshua 1:8 AMP)

Once the LAWS of God are written in our hearts, we effortlessly by walking in the Spirit obey the laws of God.

45 The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.
46 Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you?
47 For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words [in order to heed their teaching] and does them, I will show you what he is like:
48 He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a rock
(Luke 6:45-48 AMP)

EXAMPLE: LUST, FORNICATION, ADULTERY

11 For [adultery] is a heinous and chief crime, an iniquity [to demand action by] the judges and punishment.
12 For [uncontrolled passion] is a fire which consumes to Abaddon (to destruction, ruin, and the place of final torment); [that fire once lighted would rage until all is consumed] and would burn to the root all my [life’s] increase
(Job 31:11-12 AMP)

Once the LAWs concerning LUST, ADULTERY, FORNICATION are written in our hearts we gain understanding that COMMITTING THESE SINS are FOLLY!

If we gain the understand that the judgement of God comes upon the fornicators, and immoral and that engaging in these sins is basically using our own hands to destroy our lives then we will not only FLEE IT, WE WILL DREAD EVERY APPEARANCE OF SUCH EVIL.

We will SEE examples of those WHOSE lives were destroyed by this.

Practical Example: Tiger Woods was world number one golfer for 683 weeks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_Number_One_male_golfers) and that changed overnight when his wife discovered he was committing adultery. All of a sudden he lost his marriage, his family, his reputation, money, etc. http://nypost.com/2013/11/24/the-night-tiger-woods-was-exposed-as-a-serial-cheater/

32 But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks heart and understanding (moral principle and prudence); he who does it is destroying his own life.
33 Wounds and disgrace will he get, and his reproach will not be wiped away
(Proverbs 6:32-33 AMP)

4 Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God].
5 For be sure of this:that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain] —for he [in effect] is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no one delude and deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and disobedience
(Ephesians 5:4-6 AMP)

Jesus came and explained further that adultery is not just a physical action. Lustfully looking at woman is committing adultery in our hearts. Jesus was addressing the root of the problem which is the source of the evil, what is in our hearts. He was saying adultery in the heart is sin. This reveals that porn is sin.

Matthew 5:28

28 But I say to you that everyone who so much as looks at a woman with evil desire for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

We Must Cooperate with the HOLY SPIRIT in WRITING THE LAWS OF GOD in OUR HEARTS! God cannot and will not FORCE any MAN! IT IS OUR CHOICE!

FOR THOSE WHO THINK BY MY SACRIFICES TO GOD, GOD WILL FORGIVE ME…. BEWARE!

6 Sacrifice and offering You do not desire, nor have You delight in them; You have given me the capacity to hear and obey [Your law, a more valuable service than] burnt offerings and sin offerings [which] You do not require.
7 Then said I, Behold, I come; in the volume of the book it is written of me;
8 I delight to do Your will, O my God; yes, Your law is within my heart.
(Psalms 40:6-8 AMP)

God’s Laws Are Not Burdensome

3 For the [true] love of God is this:that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous

Believe You Have Already Received It

God is not slow in answering Prayers at ALL! Before we ask, He has answered, while we are speaking, He hears!

24 And it shall be that before they call I will answer; and while they are yet speaking I will hear.
(Isaiah 65:24 AMP)

24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it
(Mark 11:24 AMP)

11 For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.
12 Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you.
13 Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
(Jeremiah 29:11-13 AMP)

19 O people who dwell in Zion at Jerusalem, you will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you
(Isaiah 30:19 AMP)

9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, Here I am. If you take away from your midst yokes of oppression [wherever you find them], the finger pointed in scorn [toward the oppressed or the godly], and every form of false, harsh, unjust, and wicked speaking,
(Isaiah 58:9 AMP)

CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING FROM GOD

1. FORGIVE

14 For if you forgive people their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses
(Matthew 6:14-15 AMP)

25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.
26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your failings and shortcomings
(Mark 11:25-26 AMP)

2. PUT AWAY OTHER GODs, ESPECIALLY THE GOD OF MAMMON

24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon ( deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in
(Matthew 6:24 AMP)

22 Then you will defile your carved images overlaid with silver and your molten images plated with gold; you will cast them away as a filthy bloodstained cloth, and you will say to them, Be gone!
23 Then will He give you rain for the seed with which you sow the soil, and bread grain from the produce of the ground, and it will be rich and plentiful. In that day your cattle will feed in large pastures
(Isaiah 30:22-23 AMP)

24 If you lay gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook [considering them of little worth],
25 And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure,
26 Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God.
27 You will make your prayer to Him, and He will hear you, and you will pay your vows.
28 You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways
(Job 22:24-28 AMP)

3. OBEY GOD’s WORD

19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;
20 But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken it
(Isaiah 1:19-20 AMP)

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success
(Joshua 1:8 AMP)

21 As for Me, this is My covenant or league with them, says the Lord:My Spirit, Who is upon you [and Who writes the law of God inwardly on the heart], and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouths of your [true, spiritual] children, or out of the mouths of your children’s children, says the Lord, from henceforth and forever
(Isaiah 59:21 AMP)

4. TRUST IN THE LORD, BELIEVE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD

5 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths
(Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP)

17 As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations. [He was appointed our father] in the sight of God in Whom he believed, Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed.
18 [For Abraham, human reason for] hope being gone, hoped in faith that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been promised, So [numberless] shall your descendants be.
19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered the [utter] impotence of his own body, which was as good as dead because he was about a hundred years old, or [when he considered] the barrenness of Sarah’s [deadened] womb.
20 No unbelief or distrust made him waver (doubtingly question) concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God,
21 Fully satisfied and assured that God was able and mighty to keep His word and to do what He had promised.
22 That is why his faith was credited to him as righteousness (right standing with God).
23 But [the words], It was credited to him, were written not for his sake alone,
24 But [they were written] for our sakes too. [Righteousness, standing acceptable to God] will be granted and credited to us also who believe in (trust in, adhere to, and rely on) God, Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead

Are you poor, brokenheated, captive, or blind or bruised? You are in LUCK! God Loves YOU!!!

The love of our Heavenly Father (God Almighty) was expressed in Jesus. Jesus came because of YOU!!!

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord
(Luke 4:18-19 KJV)

Jesus came so that the Holy Spirit could be released on all flesh so that through the Holy Spirit, God can minister His salvation to us.

In times of trials and distress we have the Holy Spirit as our Comforter. He binds the broken-hearted, heals the wounded soul.

7 However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you
(John 16:7 AMP)

28 And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.
29 Even upon the menservants and upon the maidservants in those days will I pour out My Spirit
(Joel 2:28-29 AMP)

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ALL YOU NEED

A lot of people seek comfort and safety in money, possessions, positions, drinks, other people but these things fail. They are all temporary.

Money grows wings and flies away when it is gotten.

People will fail, jobs will come and go, companies will rise and fall, money will come and go, houses will come and become obsolete, but Almighty God, the creator of the Universe cannot expire because He created it all.

SET YOUR AFFECTION ON GOD

Seek God with all your heart! It’s wise to first be ACQUAINTED with GOD before setting out on the journey of life because if you violate His laws, the punishment awaits you. God is JUDGE OF ALL.

13 All has been heard; the end of the matter is:Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good or evil.
(Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 AMP)

More importantly, God wants to help His CHILDREN. He is a loving Father that wants to guide and bless His children. Once you know the ways, laws, instructions of your Father and follow them diligent, He promises to hear your prayers and show you favour in all your ways. He says He will cause you to prosper in ALL your ways.

21 Acquaint now yourself with Him [agree with God and show yourself to be conformed to His will] and be at peace; by that [you shall prosper and great] good shall come to you.
22 Receive, I pray you, the law and instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart.
23 If you return to the Almighty [and submit and humble yourself before Him], you will be built up; if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents,
24 If you lay gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook [considering them of little worth],
25 And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure,
26 Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God.
27 You will make your prayer to Him, and He will hear you, and you will pay your vows.
28 You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways
(Job 22:21-28 AMP)

1 BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity
(Psalms 1:1-3 AMP)

SEEK GOD FIRST!

God knows all you need and he wants to provide for you. He not only wants to take care of you but He wants to make our lives great! He wants to give us joy, peace, and a fulfilled life. He only says seek Him first, know Him, learn His ways, obey His instructions and live your life trusting Him to help, provide and guide you.

33 But seek ( aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness ( His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides
(Matthew 6:33 AMP)

God searches the Heart and Mind of Man

Something happened to me recently that shocked me and revealed the deceitfulness of my heart. Even though in my mind I was strongly desiring something, my heart was leading me in a contrary direction due to some negative thoughts deposited some days/weeks before (even though my minds conclusion of the matter seemed positive to me).

Sins of the heart are the root of every manifestation of evil. If you entertain negative thoughts you are most likely sinning without knowing it.

What’s most deadly is that if we allow bad thoughts or suggestions to be deposited in our heart it bears bad fruit even if we are trying to get good results on the outside and on the same subject. That’s why once offended we unconsciously hurt people with ease.
I believe that’s why the bible says the heart is deceitful.

Love God with All of your Heart, Soul, and Mind

There is something that I’ve been learning since WAFBEC 2013 from what Bishop Oyedepo preached (yes Fisayo, this again 😁) and I thought to share with the hope it would help someone.

Once upon a time, when I was in my final year, a computer science friend told me she had failed a maths course twice already so I offered to teach her since it was my discipline and I excelled in it. When we started the lessons, I gave her a problem which involved differentiation to solve and she solved it but got the wrong answer. Then I give her a very simple problem which revealed the root of the problem. I asked her to differentiate sin(x), cos(x) and tan(x) and she missed it. The problem was in the fundamentals of differentiation, hence even though she understood the higher principles, she still failed in getting the correct answer.

In a similar way, our faith in God can have a faulty foundation and without fixing the foundation, no matter what we do, it will avail to nothing. God is not a man that He should lie, hence if it’s not working, the problem is with us.

“If faith isn’t working in our hands, yourself questions, why is it not working?” – Bishop David Oyedepo.

I found that there was something fundamentally wrong with my faith. God said I should love Him with all of my heart, mind and strength. He said the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. He said I should walk in all His ways and serve no other God but Him because He is a jealous God. He said I should trust in Him with all my heart. He said He is a rewarder of them that DILIGENTLY seek HIM.

Without having laid the proper foundation of faith I attempted to “reap the harvest of faith” which really was covetousness disguised as faith. Then I stumbled and got offended and angry at God and I turned my back on Him. All this I did thinking I was righteous.

Wow! It’s been an emotional 2015

2015 has been a roller coaster ride! I’ve learnt a lot and I’m learning to be grateful for the opportunities and challenges that came with it. If there is one thing I learnt practically in 2015, it’s that peace and life is a precious gift and should never be sold for money.

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
(Matthew 16:26 KJV)

What is the soul? Well according to my understanding, my soul is he conscious part of my being that joins my spirit with my body. I understand it to be my conscious mind, emotions and my heart. I think and feel through my soul. My memories, emotions, and active environment are processed by my soul and depending on HOW I process WHAT I’m feeling, remembering or experiencing determines if I make progress or regress.

While working with people we may encounter others with manipulative, aggressive or pure evil tendencies. While I grew up with a passive personality, I’ve realised being passive in the mist of an aggressive or manipulative personality is a recipe for much suffering. That suffering I believe is what it means to “lose his own soul”.

Living with no peace, no joy, no respect, and living in constant emotional and psychological assault in the name of work or “gaining the whole world” is not worth it.

The proper response to an abusive relationship whether professional or personal relationship is to be assertive, set the boundaries, and be willing to pull the plug if those boundaries are constantly violated.

6 Better is a handful with quietness than both hands full with painful effort, a vain striving after the wind and a feeding on it.
(Ecclesiastes 4:6 AMP)
