Something happened to me recently that shocked me and revealed the deceitfulness of my heart. Even though in my mind I was strongly desiring something, my heart was leading me in a contrary direction due to some negative thoughts deposited some days/weeks before (even though my minds conclusion of the matter seemed positive to me).
Sins of the heart are the root of every manifestation of evil. If you entertain negative thoughts you are most likely sinning without knowing it.
What’s most deadly is that if we allow bad thoughts or suggestions to be deposited in our heart it bears bad fruit even if we are trying to get good results on the outside and on the same subject. That’s why once offended we unconsciously hurt people with ease.
I believe that’s why the bible says the heart is deceitful.
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?
10 I the Lord search the mind, I try the heart, even to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.
God looks at our heart not our actions. I believe that’s why Jesus said he who looks at a woman lustfully has committed adultery already in his heart even if he hasn’t done so physically. Purity in our thought life is the goal. Once this is achieved purity on the outside is automatic.
20 And He said, What comes out of a man is what makes a man unclean and renders [him] unhallowed.
21 For from within, [that is] out of the hearts of men, come base and wicked thoughts, sexual immorality, stealing, murder, adultery,
22 Coveting (a greedy desire to have more wealth), dangerous and destructive wickedness, deceit;unrestrained (indecent) conduct; an evil eye (envy), slander (evil speaking, malicious misrepresentation, abusiveness), pride (the sin of an uplifted heart against God and man), foolishness (folly, lack of sense, recklessness, thoughtlessness).
23 All these evil [purposes and desires] come from within, and they make the man unclean and render him unhallowed.
Our experiences is governed not by God’s will but by what is in our heart.
44 For each tree is known and identified by its own fruit; for figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor is a cluster of grapes picked from a bramblebush.
45 The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.
46 Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you?
Our hearts can be filled with malice or evil thoughts from thoughts deposited in the past. They need to be uprooted. New evil thoughts and suggestions need to be blocked and purified with the truth.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6
3 For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons.
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds,
5 [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),
6 Being in readiness to punish every [insubordinate for his] disobedience, when your own submission and obedience [as a church] are fully secured and complete.
23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
Let’s remember/recall God searches our mind and heart not our actions.
1 Chronicles 28:9
9 And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father [have personal knowledge of Him, be acquainted with, and understand Him; appreciate, heed, and cherish Him] and serve Him with a blameless heart and a willing mind. For the Lord searches all hearts and minds and understands all the wanderings of the thoughts. If you seek Him [inquiring for and of Him and requiring Him as your first and vital necessity] you will find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.
I’m starting the process of purging my heart.
